Principles of Balance

Whether you know it as "Hand balancing" or think of it as the wide array of shapes we commonly refer to as "inversions," Arm Balances and Handstand share two core tenants: strength and balance. In this two-hour workshop lead by professional fitness instructor and acrobat Candace O'Neil Cihocki, you will learn to flip your perspective - literally, by exploring the array of training techniques that make these somewhat scary and seemingly advanced postures accessible and possible in your own body. 

We will break down Crow (bakasana) variations, dissect Forearm Balance (Pincha Mayurasana), Handstand (Adho Mukha Vrksasana) and more fun shapes and poses. We will get warmed up through a 30 minute yoga practice followed by a Wrist Health tutorial, before diving into the varieties of tips, tricks, and techniques for our inversion practice. You will walk away with the building blocks to train towards, fully begin, or further your inversion practice. Expect an atmosphere of fun, plenty of laughs, lots of sweat, and to uncover an inner belief that we are strong enough to defy gravity. 

While this workshop will be most accessible and effective for those with an existing yoga practice, this is a great opportunity for both the beginner and the steady practitioner.  

About Candace:

Candace O'Neil Cihocki has been a fitness professional for over a decade and teaching various movement arts since 2001. She holds a BFA and MFA in theatrical arts and is a trained dancer, actor, who has been directing and choregraphing for the stage since 1999. In addition to teaching Barre since 2011, Sculpt since 2015 , Mat Power Pilates since 2008, and Vinyasa Yoga since 2013, Candace is a trained acrobat and the Co-Founder of and the host of the renowned annual Philly Phlight Festival.
