Hillary Lacks

Hillary moved to Philadelphia in 2019, when she started exploring fitness as a way to support her mental health and find a community. Shockingly, she found that when she separated diet culture expectations from her movement practice it actually became enjoyable! After trying all different types of classes and studios, barre really stuck as something she wanted to continue (although she does enjoy having variety to keep things spicy).

After receiving her Barre Certification from Tuck Barre & Yoga in the spring of 2021, Hillary fell in love with teaching. She cares to facilitate classes that are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible for all bodies, levels, and experiences; that are comfortable for people to take variations and adjustments and listen to their bodies; where people can show up as their most authentic selves. These types of spaces are more limited for people with disabilities, so Hillary obtained her Adaptive and Inclusive Training Certification from the Adaptive Training Academy in the summer of 2022 to promote mindful and empowering movement opportunities for the disabled community.

Outside of teaching fitness classes, Hillary is a Licensed Social Worker and business owner who promotes disability-informed services through direct coaching, adaptive movement and mindfulness programming, and professional development training. More notably, Hillary is a dog mom, plant lady, and a biiig fan of iced coffee. She can’t wait to see you at the barre!

  • YOUR TEACHING STYLE: empowering, personalizable, feel-good

  • MUSIC/SONGS ON ROTATION IN YOUR CLASS: I have a very eclectic mix of music, so you’re always in for a surprise. Playlists are heavily influenced by TikTok trends, being a 90s kid, and strong women

  • FAVORITE BARRE MOVE: I love a good plié at the barre

  • FAVORITE PHILLY RESTAURANT: I eat absolutely anything, but a few of my favorites are Thanal Indian Tavern, Abe Fisher, and American Sardine Bar.

  • TWO THINGS STILL LEFT ON YOUR BUCKET LIST: Live in another country for a bit, and go on a fancy glamping trip

  • IF YOU HAD ONE EXTRA HOUR OF FREE TIME A DAY, HOW WOULD YOU USE IT: have a leisurely morning getting a nice coffee and snuggling with my dog
