Hands on Assists Practice

Hands on assists are a way for yoga teachers to support, direct, and deepen the postures in their yoga offering. In this 3 hour workshop, we will explore why yoga assisting is important in yoga and how to do it safely. Most importantly, we will have ample time to practice a variety of assists techniques and give and receive constructive feedback.

Post pandemic, it has become less and less common for yoga teachers to use hands on assists in their teaching style. Many teachers are going through their 200hr training without any practice with physical touch. This workshop we will help teachers build confidence and skills.

Josie Rosa Gatlin, 200hr E-RYT, YACEP, has over 10 years of yoga teaching experience. Since 2017 she has coached multiple 200hr yoga teacher trainings, lead workshops, and continued education courses. She has the tools and knowledge to empower new and seasoned teachers. Come and learn with your peers through this interactive training and gain 3 hours of CEC.

  • Date: Sunday, March 14th, 2:00-5:00 PM

  • Cost: $50

  • Led by Josie Gatlin

  • Location: Lumos Yoga & Barre Parrish Street

About Josie: For as long as Josie can remember, mindful movement has always been a part of her life and lifestyle. Along the journey of transformation, that movement has included sports, hiking, meditation, stretching, dancing, climbing trees;  In her first real time away from home, she discovered power vinyasa yoga. Learning to control her breath and connect it with intentional movements was empowering as well as innate.  Yoga felt like home to her.  In 2008 she attended school for Exercise Science and later worked as a personal trainer. It wasn't until 2013 when, after a life changing event, she moved from NY to Philadelphia to begin her 200 YTT at Power Yoga Works.

Since then, Josie has taught yoga, kickboxing, belly dancing and silver sneakers. She has taught at studios and gyms, parks and rooftops.  She has taught seniors, pregnant students, and professional athletes.  Over the years, Josie had profound connections with thousands of people and it helped her learn and grow as a yoga teacher.  Those connections extend to her community and her family; her husband Michael, and her kids Franklin, Phoenix and Wilson.

Transformation continues to be essential to her yoga journey. These days, Josie teaches part time and coaches teacher trainings and continued education courses.  She teaches vinyasa yoga, yoga sculpt, restorative, chair yoga, and yoga for kids.  She looks forward to meeting you on the mat or in the neighborhood!
