Let Them Eat Cake - Lumos x Darnel’s Cake’s Fundraiser Classes
It's been eight years since Fairmount has had a big Bastille Day celebration (who remembers the big celebration at the Penitentiary?) so we thought the neighborhood was due for one! Join us on Tuesday, July 14th as we celebrate Bastille Day with cake and fundraiser classes.
All of our evening classes at all 3 studio locations will be celebrating with fundraiser classes benefiting local group Philadelphia FIGHT. Each class is a suggested donation of $25-$30 - take class, and we'll have cake slices afterwards from local bakery Darnel's Cakes.
Darnel’s Cakes is a tasty project that raises awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic and supports local and national organizations that are at the forefront of fighting the virus, disease, and/or associated stigmas. What started as a small cupcake fundraiser in the Fall of 2015 for World AIDS Day is now a thriving retail business. Darnel’s specializes in fresh cakes, cookies, bars and savory snacks that are carefully crafted by Chef/Founder, Kyle Cuffie-Scott & Chef/Co-Owner Joe Lope This project is all in honor of his late cousin Darnel Scott, who left us in January of 2013.
All proceeds from all of these classes will be donated to Philadelphia FIGHT, which provides comprehensive, equitable, and compassionate healthcare and support services for individuals and communities facing health disparities. Our donations will all go to this organization, but we will divide up the donations and allocate funds to different sectors within the organization - between AIDS Education Month, PrEP Fund, Pride Program, and Trans Youth Resilience Fund. All FIGHT programs and services are offered regardless of gender, race, color, sex, religious beliefs, national origin, sexual orientation, or insurance status. No one will be denied access to services due to inability to pay, and there is a discounted/sliding fee schedule available based on family size and income.
